Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Hamilton Bulldogs are Eastern Conference Champions after a 2-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs Thursday night. The Bulldogs won the series 4-1 and move on to the OHL Championship Series.
The game started with the Bulldogs pressing early, but unable to get one past Kingston goalie Jeremy Helvig. The Frontenacs didn't get a shot on goal until the 9:50 mark of the 1st period, but it beat Kaden Fulcher for a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs dominated the 2nd period out-shooting Kingston 17-6 and Justin Lemcke (2) got a shot through from the point at 8:22 to tie the game 1-1.
It was a tight checking 3rd period that had a feeling of overtime, until 12:56 when Connor Walters (1) faked a shot from the point, walked in and let a wrist-shot go from the top of the face-off circle that Jeremy Helvig never saw until it whistled over his right shoulder and ended up in the top corner of the net for a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs shut Kingston down the rest of the way.
3 STARS:
1) Connor Walters (HAM) 2) Justin Lemcke (HAM) 3) Kaden Fulcher (HAM)
The Bulldogs advance to the OHL Championship Series and will face the winner of the Western Conference Final between the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the Kitchener Rangers.
