
Bud Harrelson to Speak at 2015 Westerners Celebrity Breakfast

DANBURY, CT (March 17): The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce that they will be having their 21st Annual Celebrity Breakfast on June 5th at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, CT. The Annual Celebrity Breakfast welcomes the 2015 Danbury Westerners to the greater Western Connecticut community. In addition, the Westerners are thrilled to announce that former All Star and New York Mets World Series Champion Bud Harrelson will be the keynote speaker.
Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerners, commented, "Bud Harrelson has had a very distinguished career spanning fifty years in professional baseball. Everyone remembers Buddy as a key contributor to the Miracle Mets World Series victory in 1969, and he followed that with successes as a coach, major league manager and owner of the Long Island Ducks. Bud has witnessed a lot throughout his career and continues our tradition of exceptional speakers at our Breakfast. I am certain our guests will enjoy listening to him."
At the Breakfast the Westerners will once again present the annual Michael Seri Award in honor of the late Michael Seri, for perpetuating community partnerships, dedication and sportsmanship on behalf of the Danbury Westerners. The first recipient in 2009 was Mr. Seri. Other past honorees include Bart Busterna, Mary Ann Frede, Richard Reimold, Gene Eriquez, Charlie Coakley, Chris Arconti, Bill Pullan and Chris Miller.

About Bud Harrelson
Bud Harrelson is a former Major League Baseball switch hitting shortstop, who played in over 1,500 games spanning sixteen seasons from 1965 to 1980 for the New York Mets (1965-1977), Philadelphia Phillies (1978-1979) and Texas Rangers (1980). During his career Harrelson was a two-time All-Star and gold glove winner. Harrelson is a member of the 1969 World Series Champions New York Mets, and the 1973 National League Champion New York Mets, starting every post-season game.
After his playing career ended Harrelson remained active in professional baseball, serving as the third base coach for the New York Mets from 1985-1990, and as their manager from 1990-1991. Afterwards, Harrelson was involved with the ownership of the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team, and was instrumental in bringing professional baseball to Long Island with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. Harrelson served as the team's first field manager and remains a co-owner and Senior Vice-President of Baseball Operations with the Ducks. During his tenure the Ducks have won three championships.
Harrelson resides in Hauppauge with his wife, Kim, and are the parents of Alexandra, Kassandra, and Troy Joseph. Harrelson has two older children, Tim and Kimberly. Tim lives in Commack with his two children, and Kimberly lives in California with her three children.
