SUDDEN DEATH DIVIDED: Last weekend marked the "best of the bests" as the East Division-leading Indiana Ice hosted the West Division-leading Omaha Lancers in a two-game home stand from Pepsi Coliseum. The top two teams in the USHL each earned three points on the weekend as the Lancers prevailed 3-2 in a shootout on Friday, before Indy closed out the weekend with a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday night, giving the Ice a league-best 50 points on the season.
CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT: The Ice will be sporting pink jerseys this Saturday in support of "Cancer Awareness Night" where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Little Red Door Cancer Agency in Indianapolis, an agency that provides support, research and screening for cancer. In addition, Christian rock band, Storyside:B will be performing a pre-game concert starting at 5 p.m.
ALL-STAR AURA: With the all-star game on tap for next week in Green Bay, Indy's four "player" representatives continue to make significant contributions to the team's January success.
Paul Carey: Forward is riding a three-game point streak and has six assists in his last six games....Is second in the USHL with 20 goals.
John Carlson: Defenseman is riding a four-game point streak which includes five
points (G, 4A)....Is second among league defensemen with 25 points.
John Kemp: Playmaker carries a three-game point streak into this week's action that includes four assists....Tied for first in the USHL with 42 points.
Greg Squires: Registered his fifth three-or-more point game of the year in Saturday's win including the game-winner in overtime...Has ten points (5G, 5A) in his last nine games.
ICE REMARKS: Scott Darling was 1-0-1 with a 1.87 GAA and a .945 SV% (69/73) in the weekend series with Omaha....Jake Skjodt is riding a three-game point streak and has points in four of his last five games.... Three of the club's five goals on the weekend came from defensemen (Carlson, Ben Blood, Robert Martini).
TEAM NOTATIONS: The Ice has played a league-most 19 one-goal games in which the club is an impressive 14-1-4....Eight of the team's last nine games have gone to either overtime or a shootout and Indy is 5-3 in those eight contests.....The Ice is 8-4-1 on the road this year.
