Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that that have acquired third year forward Erick Lizon from the Oklahoma City Blazers for future considerations. Lizon signed a contract with the Bucks this week.
The 6'4, 210 pound Lizon spent last season with the Blazers, putting up 67 penalty minutes, while scoring two goals, with three assists in just 23 games. Lizon suffered an injury in the Blazers season-opening 4-2 loss to Youngstown, which forced him out of action until January 5th. In his first game back from injury against the Texas Brahmas, Lizon picked up 17 penalty minutes in the third period of Oklahoma City's 4-1 win.
When Lizon was at full strength on the ice last season, he made quite an impression on the rest of the CHL.
"Lizon is a big, strong, tough winger. He has exactly what we've been missing for a couple of seasons", said Bucks Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "I spoke with him (Tuesday) and he's very excited to come here, he's ready to play for us. I'm confident in saying that he will make a big impact".
Lizon, a native of Kitchener, Ontario, spent his rookie season with the UHL's (now-IHL) Rockford Icehawks, where he racked up 137 penalty minutes, to go along with one goal and six assists in 52 games.
"He's a very good defensive forward, which is what we are looking for. We think he will make an impression with his defense, he's very solid there", Ruskowski said.
Lizon has always been known as an aggressive player, that dates back to his junior hockey career where he piled up well over 100 penalty minutes in each of his two seasons.
The winger split his first junior season in 2004-05 with the Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL), and the Streetsville Derbys (OPJHL), where he totaled 165 penalty minutes, to go along with five goals, and 14 assists.
Lizon spent his second junior season back with Victoriaville, where he had his best offensive season. With the Tigres in 2005-06 he potted 11 goals, with 12 assists for 23 points, while putting up 127 penalty minutes in 65 games.
"Lizon will be the guy protecting everyone else", Ruskowski said. "If you want to go after someone on our team, you're going to have to deal with Lizon".
Lizon is the 10th player that the Bucks have under contract for this coming season, including four that played in the CHL last season.
