Bucks Sign Rookie D-Man

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, have signed rookie Kyle Mariani for the 2011-2012 season.
Kyle Mariani, a Toronto native, last played with the Halifax Lions in the MJAHL.
Mariani is 5'11", 192 pounds and a right handed defenseman. The 22 year old, had 9 goals and 23 assists during the regular season and 2 goals and 5 assists in the playoffs when he played for the Lions. He has played four seasons in the Canadian Major Juniors.
Mariani did not play hockey last season due to pursuing his dream of becoming a firefighter.
"Yes my firefighting school went late into the season and I wanted to have a back up plan before I committed myself to pro hockey," stated Mariani. "I actually did 2 weeks of my firefighting school in Sugarland, Texas."
When asked about his return to hockey, Mariani replied, "I had some opportunities late last season in Europe and the SPHL but nothing really I felt was worth while. With the season off, and missing the game so much as well as hearing so many good things about Laredo and being given this opportunity by the Bucks, it has made me work that much harder this long off season. I am in the best shape of my life and can't wait to get on the ice and have a great season."
