Laredo Bucks News Release

(9/17/03) LAREDO, Texas – Wednesday morning the Laredo Bucks announced the signing of goalie Marco Emond (pronounced: E-mon) to a contract for the upcoming 2003-04 Central Hockey League season. Emond played last season with the Elmira Jackals in the United Hockey League. The Bucks take to the Laredo Entertainment Center ice for their first ever pre-season home game on Saturday, October 11th against Rio Grande Valley. For tickets stop by the LEC box office, go online at www.ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone (956) 712-1566.

The 25-year old Emond played in 56 games last season with Elmira and posted a career best 33-15-3 record with a goals allowed average of 3.08 and a save percentage of 90.9. He helped the Jackals to the fourth best regular season record in the UHL and led them to the Colonial Cup Eastern Conference Finals. In addition he led all UHL goalies with 33 regular season wins, and was second in total saves with 1,594. Emond also played one game in the American Hockey League with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

"We had to have a number one goalie who wasn't listed as a veteran in terms of number of games played," said Bucks Head Coach / General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "When I heard about Marco, I checked his stats and where he had been the last couple of years and was very interested. Plus we were able to get him a tryout with the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL and that made the situation work well for both of us."

Each CHL team is allowed five veterans players. A player is considered a veteran when he has played in 260 or more professional games.

"He is an unorthodox style goalie who will make some incredible saves for you," said Tom Callahan, who was the broadcaster for Elmira last season. "If he is on his game he is so tough to beat. He likes to agitate and be a fiery leader on the ice."

The 5'10, 180-pound Emond's professional debut came in the CHL during the 1998-99 season when he played five games with the Topeka Scarecrows. Overall he has a career record of 60-38-8.
