Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 6-1 to the Corpus Christi Rayz at the LEC on Wednesday night in front of 4,213 fans. Corpus Christi scored five power play goals in the win. The Bucks are winless in four straight, going 0-3-1. Despite the tough stretch Laredo remains a Southern Conference best 28-13-5 with 61 points. The Bucks are home on Friday night against Lubbock. It's Fiesta Night at the LEC with the first 2,000 fans getting maracas courtesy of Taco Palenque. Face off is at 7:30 p.m. The Bucks are offering season tickets starting at less than $79. For more info call (956)-718-BUCK (2825).
The Rayz scored the only goal of the first period taking advantage of a five-on-three power play chance. Defenseman Geno Parrish slipped a gorgeous pass from the right point to the bottom of the left circle where wide open forward Justin Quenville snapped home a wrist shot at 12:22. Later in the frame the Bucks had a five-on-three chance of their own, but failed to capitalize.
In the second period the Rayz added to their lead again on the power play as forward Matt Turek scooped up the loose puck at the top of the crease on a goalmouth scramble and managed to shovel it home at 3:17 to make it 2-0 Corpus Christi. Once again the Bucks had a two man advantage, but failed to capitalize. Late in the frame the Bucks finally broke thru on the power play. Forward Ladislav Kouba fanned on a shot, but forward Jeff Bes was there to swat in the loose puck at 17:17 for his fifteenth of the season. Bes has scored a goal in four of the last five games.
In the third period the Rayz pulled away. Quenville scored his second of the night on a breakaway at 6:36. The Bucks were then penalized at 6:46 after a scrum in the Rayz zone. Laredo head coach Terry Ruskowski took exception to the call and began waving a white towel on top of a stick, apparently signaling his surrender. He was subsequently tossed for his actions and Corpus Christi capitalized on the ensuing power play chances. Forward Nicklas Lindberg banged home a rebound at 7:06, then forward Adam Powell snapped in a wrist shot from the left circle at 8:33 to make it 5-1. Late in the game the Rayz added another power play goal as Turek recorded his second of the night at 19:52 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Corpus Christi 6, Laredo 1.
Eric Marvin allowed six goals on 28 shots and fell to 15-5-4. Ron Vogel turned in his second strong performance in a row against Laredo as he stopped 40 of 41 and improved to 17-9-3. The Bucks went 1-10 on the power play while Corpus Christi was 5-10. Laredo out shot the Rayz 41-28.
