Laredo Bucks News Release
April 14, 2003 - The smashing success of the Laredo Bucks' inaugural season came to an end Saturday night with the conclusion of the Southern Conference Finals. Overall, 250,860 fans came to the Laredo Entertainment Center to see the Bucks play. Although the Bucks' dramatic playoff run was cut short, the team and the entire organization reached amazing heights in a region which had never before seen professional hockey.
During the regular season, the Bucks averaged 6,683 fans per game, more than any team in the league except for Oklahoma City. In the state of Texas, only one professional hockey team drew more fans than the Bucks did: the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.
In their incredible post-season run, the Bucks and their fans kicked it up a notch. The Bucks averaged 7,400 fans per game in the playoffs, easily more than any other team in the league. In fact, with a total playoff attendance of 37,003, the Bucks attracted MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY FANS as any other Central League team.
In Game Six of the Southern Conference Finals, the Bucks surpassed the quarter of a million mark in attendance. In Game Four of the Southern Conference Finals, the Bucks set a team record with a crowd of 8,214. Several hundred set up shop in the parking lot hours before the games (and after!) with large grills, coolers and picnic paraphernalia for the largest tailgate party on the border.
