Bucks Call up Pontes

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Wednesday that they have called up rookie defenseman Chris Pontes from the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League. Pontes is expected to be in the lineup Thursday when the Bucks host Arizona at Laredo Energy Arena.
The 21-year-old Pontes (pronounced PON-tis) has scored eight points (4-48) and has a plus-one rating in 11 games for Knoxville this season which ranks him in the top 10 among SPHL defensemen.
"Chris is having a good season with Knoxville so far and he is the type of player that fits what we need right now," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He's should help us win some games."
Pontes, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, played three seasons of junior hockey in the OHL and NOJHL before turning professional this season. In 153 combined junior games the 6'2'', 190 pound Pontes had 158 points (65-93158). In two of his three junior seasons Pontes scored 20 or more goals.
