Bucks Bring Salvis Back

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have re-signed forward Ryan Salvis for the 2009-10 season. Salvis, who enters his second full professional season, signed with the Bucks in November of last year.
The 25-year-old Salvis put up solid numbers last season with the Bucks, as he scored 39 points (13-26=39) in 54 games, including two goals and nine assists on the power-play. Salvis picked up four points (1-3=4) in six playoff games against Odessa last season.
"Ryan had a productive season for us last year, he came in and put up quality numbers," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "I expect him to increase his numbers this season for us."
Salvis, 6'0'', 190 pounds, had 11 multi-point games for the Bucks last season, including two multi-goal games. Salvis scored two goals in the Bucks 6-1 win over New Mexico on December 10th, while accomplishing the same feat on New Year's Eve in Laredo's 8-3 triumph over Rio Grande Valley.
Salvis had a career-high six game point streak from January 6th-26th where he compiled a total of seven points in those contests.
In the playoff series against Odessa Salvis scored in three of the six games, including picking up a goal and an assist in Laredo's 5-1 game two win.
"He was one of the players that I really wanted to get back this season."
Salvis started his pro career at the end of the 2007-08 season with Bakersfield when he picked up two assists in four regular season games, and scored two goals in six playoff games that season.
Before turning pro the Toronto, Ontario native played three seasons for St. Francis Xavier University (CIS), where he scored 18 goals, handed out 29 assists, for 47 points. Salvis picked up 100 penalty minutes in 74 games played.
While at St. Francis Salvis' goal totals increased every season, as he scored three goals in 2005-06, seven in 2006-07, and eight in 2007-08.
Prior to his college playing days, Salvis played four years of junior hockey in the QMJHL, and USHL.
In his four years of juniors combined, Salvis scored 44 goals, with 73 assists, for 117 points, in 236 games.
Salvis is the 16th Buck signed this off-season, including the third to re-sign from last year's squad, joining Igor Agarunov and Adam Rivet.
The Bucks will open their eighth season in the Gateway City on October 24th at the LEC, and will host the 2010 CHL All-Star Game January 13th. For ticket information call 718-BUCK (2825).
