Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed forward Grant Goeckner-Zoeller (GECK-ner ZELL-er) for the 2009-10 season.

The 26-year-old Los Angeles native finished fourth in team scoring and third in goals (21-23-44) in 49 games with RGV in 2008-09. He was a strong contributor on special teams, capturing 16 points (8-8-16) on the power play. He excelled on the penalty kill with linemate Topher Scott, picking up two assists while leading RGV to a fourth-place finish in CHL in penalty-killing percentage (84.47%). He also scored a pair of game-winning goals.

"Grant is a smart player with excellent hockey sense," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "He is responsible at both ends of the ice and has natural scoring ability. I look forward to seeing him build on his strong play last season."

Goeckner-Zoeller played four years of Div. 1 college hockey at Princeton University. He led the Tigers in scoring twice and finished his college career ranked fifth in school history with 73 assists. He signed with RGV on Dec. 4, 2008, after beginning last season with the ECHL Fresno Falcons. As a rookie in 2007-08, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound forward played 43 games with the Augusta Lynx and Dayton Bombers (ECHL), collecting 18 points (5-13-18).

The Killer Bees return to Dodge Arena ice this October for their seventh season in the CHL. Opening night is set for Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Laredo Bucks. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
