Laredo Bucks News Release
The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Friday that they have re-signed forward Justin Styffe for the 2010-11 season. Styffe is entering his third professional season, including his second with the Bucks.
Last season in Laredo the 25-year-old Styffe (pronounced STY-fh) notched career highs in goals (7) and points (15), while matching a career high with nine assists to go along with 107 PIM's. Styffe suffered a season-ending injury on January 16th which forced him to miss the final 29 regular season games and the entire postseason.
"Styffe brings a lot to the table there's no doubt about it," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "Not only is he a very physical player but he's lighting fast and gives us some offensive firepower also."
The 5'10'', 185 pound Styffe had two multi-point games last season including a career-high four points (2-2=4) in the Bucks 6-1 home win against Odessa on December 5th. Styffe lived up to his reputation as a hard nosed player as he squared off in 10 different fights for the Bucks last season.
"Styffe isn't the biggest player on the ice but he sure has the most heart," Ruskowski said. "It doesn't matter how much bigger the other guy is, Styffe will still go toe to toe with him and usually beat him."
In his rookie campaign in 2008-09 Styffe, from Okanagan Falls BC, finished fifth in the IHL in penalty minutes when he piled up 223 PIM's, as well as put up 15 points (6-9=15) in 60 games with the Flint Generals.
Prior to his time in Flint Styffe spent three seasons playing collegiately for Mount Royal College (ACAC) in Calgary, Alberta.
In his three years at Mount Royal Styffe collected 240 PIM's, to go along with 26 points (14-12=26) in 61 games.
In 2007-08 Styffe had six points (2-4=6) in 15 games, to go along with 86 PIM's. Styffe had his most productive college season in 2006-07 when he put up 11 points (5-6=11) with 102 PIM's, while in his freshman year in 2005-06 he had nine points (4-5=9) with 52 PIM's.
Styffe played one year of junior hockey in 2004-05 with the AJHL's Calgary Canucks, where he scored 23 points (12-11=23) with 183 PIM's in 46 games.
Starting Friday (Aug. 20th) the Bucks Team Store will offer a "Welcome Back Styffe" special. Fans can get an official, game worn Styffe jersey for just $200! Call 523-6591 to order!
Styffe is the 15th Buck signed for the 2010-11 season, including the seventh returnee (Pier Pelletier, Ryan Lehr, Serge Dube, Neil Trimm, Jarred Mohr, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, Justin Styffe).
The Bucks will start their ninth CHL season on October 15th with their home opener October 23rd against Rio Grande Valley at Laredo Energy Arena. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to place our order now.
