Bucks Bounce Back With 4-1 Win Over Bees

HIDALGO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks rebounded from a tough loss with a solid 4-1 road victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in front of 5,472 fans at the Dodge Arena on Sunday night. Forward Ladislav Kouba scored a pair of goals as the Bucks won for the ninth time in ten games, and 14th time in the last 17. Laredo is a Southern Conference best 23-9-2 with 48 points and they lead the Southeast Division by nine points. The Bucks return home on Saturday against the Wichita Thunder. The Bucks got on the scoreboard first against the Killer Bees. Immediately after a successful penalty kill defenseman Adam Rivet came out of the box and took a breakaway pass. Rivet streaked in and feathered the puck five hole on the backhand for his 13th of the season at 12:08. Later in the period Laredo capitalized on a power play chance. Rivet teed up a shot from the point that was redirected by Kouba at 18:13. It was his 10th of the season and made it 2-0 Bucks.

In the second period the Bucks extended their lead to 3-0. Kouba scored his second of the game on a wrist shot from inside the left circle at 14:27. Rio Grande Valley goalie Jeremy Symington was pulled at that point as Jeff Van Nynatten came into the game. At 17:09 the Killer Bees got back in the game on a power play chance as forward Jason Cirone backhanded in a loose puck.

Halfway thru the third period Bucks goalie Eric Marvin made a terrific save on Killer Bees forward Mark O'Leary to protect the two goal margin. With time ticking down Rio Grande Valley pulled the goalie trying to score, but inadvertently put the puck in their own net. Forward Igor Agarunov was credited with the goal to finish the scoring at 19:18. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Rio Grande Valley 1.

Marvin stopped 23 of 24 shots and earned the win to up his record to 13-4-2. Symington started and allowed three goals on 18 shots in 34:27 and took the loss to fall to 8-8-3. Van Nynatten stopped all eight shots he saw in 25:00 of work. The Bucks were 1-3 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley went 1-6. Laredo out shot the Killer Bees 27-24.
