Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Bucks got an overtime goal from defenseman Phillippe Lauze 92 seconds into sudden death to beat the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 in front of 5,230 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center on Sunday night. Forward James Hiebert had a pair of goals and setup the game winner as the Bucks won their second straight. The Bucks have points in six of the last seven games as they improved to 34-13-6 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 74 points. Laredo is home on Wednesday for an 11 a.m. Kids Day game against Rio Grande Valley. The Bucks scored first as Hiebert picked a loose puck out of mid air and backhanded it over the line at 9:41 for a 1-0 Laredo advantage. It was the 20th of the season for Hiebert. The Jackalopes tied it when forward Dominic Leveille scored on a nice move down the slot at 15:07 for a power play tally.

In the second period it was Odessa scoring first. Levielle ripped home a wrist shot from the left slot at 13:49 for his second of the game and a 2-1 Jackalopes lead. The Bucks came back to tie it just under two minutes later. Lauze gunned a shot from the left point that was stopped, but forward Brent Cullaton was there to backhand in the rebound at 15:46. It was his fifteenth goal of the season.

The Bucks took the lead in the third as Hiebert connected for his second of the night on a wrist shot high glove side on a power play at 3:04. The Jackalopes tied it with a shorthanded goal as forward Mike Rutter found defenseman Pascal Bedard cutting backdoor in the Bucks zone at 5:13. The teams traded chances down the stretch in regulation, but were unable to break the deadlock.

The game went to sudden death overtime. Hiebert cut down the left wing into the Odessa zone then dipped behind the net where he centered to Lauze who just got enough on the shot to squeeze it thru five hole over the line to give the Bucks the win. It was the fifth of the season for Lauze. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Odessa 3 in sudden death.

David Lemanowicz stopped 33 of 36 shots and got the win to improve to 14-4-3. Mike Gorman allowed four goals on 43 shots and fell to 22-10-3. Both teams were 1-7 on the power play. Laredo out shot Odessa 43-36.
