The Bucks came out firing on all cylinders. Forward Scott Kelman drove down the left goal line then cut in front and slammed the puck past Amarillo goalie Steve Briere just 61 seconds into the game. It was the second of the year for Kelman. At 9:13 defenseman Steve Weidlich fired a shot from the right point that was deflected and picked up by forward Darryl Lloyd who wristed it into the top corner of the net for his third goal of the season and a 2-0 Bucks lead. Later in the period the Bucks continued their assault as defenseman Serge Dube was stopped by Briere, but forward Jeff Bes stuffed in the rebound at 15:06. It was the sixth of the season for Bes.
Laredo again came out gunning in the second. Cullaton found a wide open Kelman in front for his second of the night and third of the year at 2:50. The Gorillas answered with a quick goal as forward Brent Hughes tipped in a slap shot from the point from defenseman Eric Anderson at 3:28. Late in the period Amarillo capitalized again this time with a two-on-one rush. Hughes cut down the right side and slipped a pass across backdoor to forward Richard Naumann who one-timed it home at 14:03. It was the first goal of the year for the Naumann, who is a native of Boerne, Texas.
Amarillo began the third period on the power power and quickly cut the Bucks lead in half. Hughes slipped a pass in front and Naumann banged it into the net just 24 seconds in to the frame to trim the Laredo lead to 4-3. Late in the game the Gorillas pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, but Weidlich sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:46. FINAL SCORE Laredo 5, Amarillo 3.
Bucks goalie David Guerrera stopped 19 of 22 shots and improved to 2-4-1. Briere allowed four goals on 28 shots and fell to 1-3-1. The Bucks were 0-2 on the power play, while Amarillo was 1-6.
