Bucks Assigned Kelman

LAREDO, Texas – The 2004 CHL Champion Laredo Bucks announced today that they have been assigned Scott Kelman. Kelman, a first round pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1999 NHL Draft, was in camp with the San Antonio Rampage. Kelman, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, played 17 games last year with the Rampage. The Bucks have a working agreement with San Antonio. He had one goal and four assists.

“We are very excited and fortunate to get a player like Scott Kelman,” said Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski. “He had the attitude that he wanted to come to Laredo. We expect him to add depth to our forward lines and we are looking for big things out of him.”

Kelman, 6’3” 215-pounds, also spent 47 games with the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL last year. He had 15 goals and 32 assists to go with 104 PIMs.

He was the 15th player taken overall by the Coyotes in the 1999 draft. The Bucks now have 29 players in training camp.

During the 2002-03 season he played with the Jackson Bandits in the ECHL, where he was teammates with Bucks forward Jeff Bes.

Laredo will have a scrimmage today at 5 p.m. at the LEC. The Bucks will skate twice a day Wednesday – Thursday this week. On Wednesday the Bucks will skate in two groups in the morning from 9-10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. The Bucks will return for an evening scrimmage from 5-6:30 p.m.

All practices and scrimmages during training camp are closed to the public.

The Bucks have to get ready quickly as Laredo will take on the New Mexico Scorpions on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Corpus Christi in a pre-season game. Fans can get tickets for $5 for the game in Corpus Christi by contacting the Rayz office at (361) 814-7825.

The Bucks will host a pre-season game against the Mexican National Ice Hockey Team this coming Sunday at 2 p.m. at the LEC. Laredo opens the 2004-05 CHL season on the road October 22nd in San Angelo. The Bucks begin the home campaign on October 23rd against the Corpus Christi Rayz.
