Bucks Add Defenseman Barrett

June 26, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release

(6/26/03) The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday the signing of rookie Michael Barrett. Barrett is the fifth player signed by the Bucks for the 2003-2004 season. He joins player/assistant Mark Matier on the Bucks blueline.

"Michael comes from major junior hockey, which is a plus for us because of his experience in the junior ranks," says Head Coach/General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "I wanted to get bigger on the point this year. Michael has good size; he's 6-2, 215. He certainly has the tools to be a very good hockey player."

Barrett began his junior career in 1998 with the Owen Sound Platers of the Ontario Hockey League. After three full seasons in Owen Sound, Barrett had OHL stints in Mississauga and Barrie. In 28 games with Barrie last season, Barrett posted two goals, eight assists and 28 penalty minutes. He played three games with the University of Prince Edward Island and received four penalty minutes. In addition, Barrett played for his hometown team, the Markham Waxers. In eight games, Barrett posted two goals, six assists and 33 penalty minutes.

Registration is underway for the Laredo Bucks Dance Team. Applications are available at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and high school graduates. The deadline for registration is July 14. The Laredo Bucks, the CHL Franchise of the Year, have season ticket information available by phone at (956) 718-BUCKS and online at www.laredobucks.com.
