Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers made a trade Monday evening to acquire a veteran forward with over seventy USHL games under his belt from the Bloomington Thunder.
The Buccaneers acquired Van Barr (affiliate list) in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2016 Phase Two USHL draft and future considerations. Barr (2-4-6 in 16 GP this year) has career totals of 15 goals and 25 points in 71 USHL games over the last two seasons. Barr's 13-6-19 led all Bloomington rookies in scoring in 2014-2015. Prior to playing for the Thunder, Barr was a part of the Omaha AAA Hockey Club.
"Van Barr had 13 goals, 7 on the power play last year, and was a guy that was tendered," pointed out Buccaneers Head Coach Dave Allison. "I think that sometimes guys need a change in scenery. We've got some guys here that played with him and I think he's a real compliment to Georgy (Gorodetsky) and Grasso."
Barr is a left-handed shot standing 5'10" 170 lbs. The forward is from St. Louis, Missouri and is a Western Michigan University commit. Barr will go down in Thunder history as the first player tendered by Bloomington in the 2014 expansion draft. He has been moved to the Des Moines Buccaneers affiliate list.
This is the second time the two organizations have made a trade this year as the Buccaneers acquired forward Will Harrison from Bloomington back in October in exchange for a 7th round pick in Phase Two of the USHL draft.
