Brooklyn Aviators News Release
The Week That Was: The Brooklyn Aviators completed their first week of play in the Federal Hockey League, going 1-1-1 in their first three games.
Brooklyn won their first contest of the season this past Thursday night at the Maine Event, which was also their season opener, against the defending 2010-11 FHL Champions, the Akwesasne Warriors, 3-2. The Aviators came back after being down 2-0 late in the contest, and rattled off three straight goals to hold on for their first victory. Tommy Lee made 28 stops in his first game in an Aviators jersey, and Jordan Bernier tallied the game-winning goal on the power play to push Brooklyn past the Warriors.
On Friday night, Brooklyn dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Cape Cod Bluefins in the Bluefins home opener at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis, Massachusetts. After being down 2-0, again, Casey Mignone netted two goals for Brooklyn to force the game into the extra session. However, with just :09 left, Dan Gordon roofed a shot over Aviators' goalie Pete Dundovich to lift Cape Cod over the black and red.
In Brooklyn's home opener on Saturday, the expansion New Jersey Outlaws handed the Aviators their first regulation loss of the year, skating past Rob Miller's squad, 7-4. A four-goal outburst from the Outlaws put them in the driver's seat, but the A's did not go away tallying two late goals from Jesse Felten and Anthony Monte. It was a little too late for Brooklyn though, as they fell to New Jersey by three.
The Brooklyn Aviators next home game is Nov. 5 against the Cape Cod Bluefins at 7:05 P.M. Great tickets are still on sale by calling 718-758-7580, or logging onto www.brooklynaviators.com. Catch the action all season long with reigning FHL Broadcaster of the Year, Carmine Vetrano on the Aviators radio network.
