Kentucky Drillers News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY - The Eastern Kentucky Drillers have taken the first step in keeping its defense at the top of the Ultimate Indoor Football League with the hiring of Jimmy Brookins as their defensive coordinator.
Brookins, who was a nominee for the 2011 Valdosta State Athletics Hall of Fame, was a All-American who earned two-time All Gulf South Conference Team honors and was a two-time Hugh C. Bailey Player of the Year award winner.
He holds records for most solo tackles in a game with 17 tackles and for most solo tackles in a season with 73 tackles. Brookins is also third all-time in single season tackles with 125. Brookins college career speaks for itself. Brookins has coached youth leagues and high school teams for over 10 years and has had great success, producing all-conference and all-state players.
The Eastern Kentucky Drillers had a league-leading defense in 2011. The Drillers defense produced two shutouts in 2011 which is unheard of in indoor football. Head coach Rick Kranz plans to uphold the Drillers dominance on the defense side of the ball and he believes Brookins is just the man for the job.
Eastern Kentucky, an inaugural member of the UIFL, plays its home games at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.
