Broncs Improve To 3-0 On Season

November 21, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Nashville Broncs News Release

Nashville, TN. The ABA Nashville Broncs defeated the Knoxville Thunderbolts 98-88 last night in a hard-fought game in Nashville, improving to 3-0 on the season. The Thunderbolts fell to 1-3. The Broncs are #1 in the ABA Power Rankings out of 37 teams. "It's good to get a win when you don't play as well as you want to," said Broncs Head Coach Jan van Breda Kolff. "You can learn from games like this."

The Broncs led the game for the first three quarters and had a six-point lead at halftime. But the Thunderbolts came back and took the lead with 6:40 left in the game. The game continued to change sides until two minutes left in the game when the Broncs got the lead for good. Adam Sonn from Belmont University led all scorers with 25 points. The Broncs' Jamere Hendrix had 22 and Josh Cooperwood from TSU in Nashville had 17. Cooperwood hit a late four-pointer to give the Broncs a lead they would not relinquish. The ABA's 3-D rule adds one point to a made shot after a backcourt turnover by the opposing team.

For the Bolts, Damon Johnson led with 20 points; Scott Williams had 17 and Dane Bradshaw 14. Johnson and Bradshaw played collegiately for the University of Tennessee. Johnson has played international pro basketball for the last 13 years. The Broncs' owner Scott Lumley played as the 13th man in the 4th quarter and had two assists.

The fast-paced game was very physical with play having to be stopped several times for player injuries. Nashville's Odell Bradley will miss at least two games. The Broncs travel this weekend to Winston-Salem to play two games against the Winston-Salem Storm. The games are Friday night and Saturday night at 730pm.
