Broncos win wild game to capture first series of 2008

LAREDO, TX-The Laredo Broncos defeated the Harlingen White Wings 12-9 in a game that had everything at Veterans Field on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 874 . The Broncos now hit the road for a 9 game trip starting Tuesday night at the San Angelo Colts. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).

The Broncos picked up right where they left off on Saturday night scoring 5 runs in the first inning off of Harlingen starter Joey Cress. With one out Dwayne White doubled and he scored on a home run by Luany Sanchez his 2nd of the season. Edgard Clemente followed with a homer of his own, his first of the season. That was followed by a walk by Jose Salas. Then with 2 away Ivan Reyes doubled to bring in Salas and Arnoldo Ponce followed with a double of his own scoring Reyes giving Laredo a 5-0 lead.

The Broncos would add on more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Mark Lewis reached base on an error and after that Dwayne White walked. Luany Sanchez then connected for his 2nd homer of the game a 3 run shot which gave Laredo a 8-0 lead.

The White Wings finally got to Broncos starter Santo Hernandez in the third inning. With one away Candelario Perez singled. Then after a walk Terry Roblez connected on a 3 run bomb to cut Laredo's lead to 5.

Harlingen would get a little bit close in the 5th inning as David Cardona hit a solo home run to cut the Broncos lead in half 8-4.

Laredo Starter Santo Hernandez was solid in his 6 innings of work. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and struck out 4.

The game turned crazy in the top of the 7th inning against Laredo reliever Julian Williams. Harlingen's Bub Bergstrom was ejected after complaining about a called third strike. Then from the bench pitcher Dan Valentine was also ejected and not long after manager Hal Gallagher was tossed as well. After all that took place Terry Roblez hit his 2nd home run of the game to make the score 8-5. Then David Cardona was hit by a pitch which was followed by a Ryan Fox walk. Then Brian Nichols hit a fly ball into right field that was dropped by Dwayne White. However base umpire ruled that White made the Catch and Nichols was out while the runners tagged and were on 2nd and 3rd. Rusty Jones then came in and gave up a double that scored both runners and that made the score 8-7.

The Broncos would get those runs backs in the bottom of the 8th inning. After two outs Edgard Clemente walked and was followed by back to back singles by Jose Salas and Johnny Lopez to load the bases. Ivan Reyes walked to force in Clemente and then on a wild pitch Salas scored as Lopez moved to 3rd and Reyes to 2nd. Both would score on Arnoldo Ponce's double and the Broncos led 12-7 after 8.

The White Wins would get two more runs on a 2 run homer by Brian Nichols but it wasn't enough as Laredo beat Harlingen 12-9

The Broncos improve their record to 3-3. Laredo has their first off day tomorrow before they head to San Angelo to take on the Colts at 7:05 on Tuesday Night.
