Broncos blow five run lead

Amarillo, TX-The Laredo Broncos looked to have the game won but the bullpen could not hold the lead as they fell 9-8 against the Amarillo Dillas on Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. The Broncos continue on their 6 game trip when they take on the Amarillo Dillas on Saturday night in the finale of a 3 game series. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning for the 2nd straight game. With two outs Luany Sanchez doubled. Edgard Clemente would follow with a double of his own scoring Sanchez and giving Laredo and early 1-0 lead.

The Broncos would add on some more runs in the 2nd inning. Santiago Guerrero led of the inning with a bunt single. He would then score on a 2 run home run by Ivan Reyes his 5th of the season, making the score 3-0.

The Dillas would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With one out Josh Ashton reached base on an infield single. He would then score on a double by Jonathan Reynoso making the score 3-1.

Laredo would get back on the scoreboard in the top of the 4th. Santiago Guerrero led off with a double and scored on a single by Ivan Reyes. Then with one out Anthony Bennett ground out to 1st baseman AJ Johnson who flipped the ball to the pitcher Taylor Allen covering the bag. Reyes who was on 2nd base never stopped running and appeared to get his hand on the plate before the tag was made, but umpire Dewey Larson called him out at home making the Broncos get only 1 run and making the score 4-1.

Amarillo would get some runs in the bottom of the 4th. With one out AJ Johnson hit his 4th home run of the season which was a solo shot. Then with 2 outs Justin Wenger singled and would score from 1st on a double by Stephen Douglas making the score after 4 innings 4-3 Broncos.

Laredo would tack on another run in the top of the 5th inning. Dwayne White led off the inning with a solo home run, his 5th homer on the season and his 2nd in as many days, making the score 5-3.

Taylor Allen the starter for the Dillas would come out to start the 8th inning and give up a single to Jose Salas. He would then be removed from the game for reliever Nathanel Mateo. After a strike out, Ivan Reyes hit a double that centerfielder Jonathan Reynoso could not find allowing Salas to move to 3rd. Then Eric Padilla hit a fly ball to Reynoso who could not find it again and it went over his head for a double scoring Salas and moving Reyes to 3rd base. Anthony Bennett would then hit a 2 run single scoring Reyes and Padilla and giving the Broncos an 8-3 lead.

Taylor Allen went 7+ innings for Amarillo giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 3.

Gregorio Martinez would go out and start the 8th inning as well for the Broncos. With one out he gave up a single to Danny Bravo and then walked AJ Johnson. He would be relieved by Rusty Jones. Jones would then walk the first man he faced in Andrew Wong to load the bases. Justin Wenger would then single in Bravo. Stephen Douglas followed with a single of his own scoring Johnson and Wong and moving Wenger to 3rd. Rusty Jones would be done for the night and John Smith would come in to relieve him. Smith would get Josh Ashton to hit a sacrifice fly scoring Wenger. Then Jonathan Reynoso would triple scoring Douglas and tying the game at 8 going into the 9th inning.

Gregorio Martinez pitched well enough to get the win but got a no decision. He went 7 1/3 giving up 5 runs on 9 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 3.

John Smith would stay in the game for the Broncos in the 9th inning. He would walk the first 3 men he faced to load the bases. He then would get Andrew Wong to fly out for the 1st out. But, on his 1st pitch to Justin Wenger, Smith hit him to force in the winning run as the Broncos fell 9-8.

The Broncos had 8 runs on 14 hits and 1error, while the Dillas had 9 runs on 12 hits and 1 error.

The Broncos fall now to 12-11 on the season. . The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night in Amarillo to play the of a 3 game set against the Dillas at 7:05.
