Broncos Beaten Up in First Game of Doubleheader Against Dillas

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos gave up 8 runs in the 5th inning as they were defeated by the Amarillo Dillas at Veterans Field by a score of 10-1 on Saturday night in the first game of a doubleheader. The Broncos continue their 6 game home stand, with the 2nd game of the doubleheader. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos and Dillas starters pitched well threw the first 3 innings giving up 0 runs. The Broncos Dan Sausville gave up only 3 hits in the first 3 innings, while his counterpart Marcos Castillo only gave up 2 hits..

Sausville would run into trouble in the top of the 4th inning. With one out AJ Johnson walked and then went to 2nd on a single by Andrew Wong. Both runners would advance a base on a passed ball by catcher Josh Morrison. Then Stephen Douglas would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Johnson. Sausville would then walk Justin Wenger and Josh Ashton to load the bases. But, Jonathan Reynoso would fly out to end the threat with Dillas leading 1-0.

The Broncos would get that run back in the bottom half of the 4th inning. With one out Santiago Guerrero hit a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. That would tie the ballgame up at 1.

Sausville would be done after 4 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He walked 4 batters and struck out 1. Rhett Barber would come into the game in the top of the 5th.

The Dillas would blow the game open in the 5th inning. With one out Gary Schneidmiller walk. Then Danny Bravo would single into left field. Anthony Bennett went for the ball and had it go through his legs for an error, allowing Schneidmiller to score and Bravo to go to 2nd. That run would be unearned. With two outs, Andrew Wong walked. Stephen Douglas would then single knocking in Bravo and moving Wong to 3rd base. Douglas would then steal 2nd and would score along with Wong on a single by Justin Wenger. Josh Aston would then walk moving Wenger to 2nd base. That would do it for Barber as David Wasylak would come in for him. Jonathan Reynoso would then single scoring Wenger from 2nd and moving Ashton to 3rd base. Keith Brachold would then single scoring Ashton and advancing Reynoso to 2nd. Then Gary Schneidmiller would single scoring Reynoso and moving Brachold to 3rd. Brachold would then score on a single by Danny Bravo. Amarillo would score 8 runs in the inning and lead by a score of 9 to 1.

Justin Staatz would then come into the game in the top of the 6th innning. He would throw a scoreless 6th inning, but would run into trouble in the 7th. With one out Keith Brachold and Gary Schneidmiller walked. Then Danny Bravo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a strike out, Andrew Wong singled scoring Brachold and giving the Dillas a 10-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.

Marcos Castillo would start the 7th inning looking for the complete game and get the Broncos to go 1-2-3 as the Dillas took game 1 of the doubleheader by a score of 10-1

The Broncos scored 1 run on 6 hits and committed 1 error, while the Dillas scored 10 runs on 13 hits and committed 0 errors.

The Broncos fall to 18-18 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday night when they complete the doubleheader with the 2nd game against the Amarillo Dillas.
