Brockton's David Sacchetti named NEL General Manager of the Year
September 17, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham, N.C. -- Brockton's David Sacchetti was selected by the managers and members of the media as the Northeast League's General Manager of the Year on Friday. This is the second major postseason award for the Rox, as Kris Zacuto was named Rookie Player of the Year on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
Sacchetti, who is in his first season as the General Manager, was instrumental in Brockton shattering the league's attendance record as 203,094 fans passed through the gates of Campanelli Stadium. Last year, Quebec set the record with 152,153 patrons. Sacchetti ran numerous successful promotions this season, including: Silent Night, where the stadium was quiet until the sixth inning, Grandstand Manager Day, where the fans made the decisions, and Bobblection 2004, where the fans picked their favorite presidential candidate's bobble-head doll.
"David eminently deserved this award," stated team owner Van Schley. "He did a great job this season in drawing over 200,000 fans to our ballpark. It is a joy to work each day with a complete professional like David."
David Sacchetti became the GM on April 1, 2004 after spending the last two seasons as Assistant General Manager. Sacchetti spent 16 years in the airline industry before a chance meeting with Mike Veeck in 1995 led him into baseball. In December 1996, the Mount Vernon, N.Y., native, who has a degree in business finance from St. Louis University, joined the Charleston RiverDogs to work in the ticket sales department. In 2000, Sacchetti was named assistant general manager of the Duluth Superior Dukes. Five months later, he was named the team's general manager, but came to Brockton in October, 2001, to help the Rox prepare for their inaugural season.
