Bangor's Pavlik sold to San Diego Padres

Durham, N.C. -- Bangor's Isaac Pavlik became the fourth Northeast League player bought this week when he was sold to the San Diego Padres on Friday, Sept. 17. He joins Jake Whitesides, who was bought by the Chicago White Sox on July 22, as the second Lumberjack to be purchased this season and is the 13th NEL player to be sold during the season. Earlier in the week, Brian Buchanan (Brockton), Alex Santos (Quebec) and Paul Jacinto (Quebec) were all acquired by affiliated teams.

Pavlik, a five-foot-eight left-handed pitcher, was 1-3 with a 3.73 earned run average and collected four saves for Bangor, which lost in the first round of the Northeast League playoffs to New Jersey. He appeared in 24 contests, five of which were starts, and allowed 25 runs, 21 earned, while striking out 56. As a reliever, Pavlik only gave up seven runs in 24 innings and never surrendered more than two runs in an outing. Opponents were hitting .232 against him.

Pavlik was originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round of the 2002 MLB Draft. In 2002, he was selected as the Northwest League's All-Star Left-handed Relief Pitcher while pitching for the Class-A Tri-City Dust Devils. Last season and the beginning of this year, Pavlik toed the rubber for the Class-A Visalia Oaks of the California League. This was his first season in the Northeast League.

All-in-all, 32 former NEL players have appeared on an affiliated team's roster this season.
