Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, Mass. - In the midst of a playoff race, the Brockton Rox have traded All-Star closer Brendan O'Donnell to the New Jersey Jackals along with a player to be named later in exchange for right-handed pitchers Nyan Hernandez and Joe Joe Rodriguez as well as a player to be named later.

Hernandez began his professional baseball career as a member of the Texas Rangers Dominican Summer League team, spending a total of three seasons with the Rangers from 2019-2022. He returned to baseball in 2024 as a member of the American Association and Pioneer League before joining the New Jersey Jackals for 2026.

In 22 games this season, Hernandez has pitched 46.1 innings, posting a 5.63 earned runs average and a 1.122 WHIP. He has struck out 40 batters and allowed 41 hits during his time with the Jackals organization. He has primarily served as a reliever during his time in New Jersey.

A former draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds, Rodriguez spent time in affiliated ball with the Mets before beginning his Frontier League career with the Jackals in 2024. Throughout his three seasons with New Jersey, Rodriguez has spent time in both a starting and a relief role, most recently coming out of the bullpen for the Jackals.

During his 28 appearances this season, the right-hander has pitched a total of 52.1 innings, sporting a 6.19 earned runs average and a 1.720 WHIP, striking out 43 batters and allowing 65 hits.

O'Donnell joins New Jersey after a stellar second season with Brockton. Early in the season, O'Donnell established himself as the Rox most reliable pitcher, with the lowest ERA on the team. After a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization fell through due to a physical, O'Donnell returned to Brockton to continue the 2026 campaign. With some of the best numbers in the league heading into the All-Star Break, O'Donnell secured a trip to Florence for his first career Frontier League All-Star nod.

Some velocity struggles plagued O'Donnell following the All-Star Break, but the New Jersey Jackals are still slated to receive one of the best arms in the Frontier League. The left-hander currently has a 4.12 earned runs against average and a 1.017 WHIP in 33 games played and 39.1 innings pitched. The former Rox closer also struck out 52 batters, securing 13 saves for the Brockton side.

Along with the trade, the Rox have also activated catcher Hayden Travinski off the 14-Day Injured List. After missing nearly a month with a bicep injury, Travinski returns to the Rox to fill in the Brockton backup catcher role, allowing Evan Sleight to return to right field. Travinski's return rounds out a catching group that includes All-Star Derek Bender and new acquisition John Cristino, who formerly played catcher for the Knockouts and played first base in his only appearance with the Rox this season.
