Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - An early 7-0 deficit didn't keep the BayBears' spirits down as they battled back to make a game of it but still fell short in a 9-7 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Hector Ambriz (3-9) was roughed up early as the Biscuits (34-35) socked him for four runs in the first inning. Montgomery extended their lead in the fifth as Gaby Martinez lined a homer to right-center to give the Biscuits a 6-0 advantage. Sergio Pedroza picked up his second RBI single of the night to make it 7-0.
After scoring just two hits in the first five innings against James Houser (2-1), the BayBears (28-41) made some noise in the sixth as Yunesky Sanchez reached on an error in a prelude to singles by Chris Rahl and Gerardo Parra. Javier Brito then laced an RBI double to make it 7-2. With the bases loaded, Frank Curreri grounded to third and a wild throw by Chris Nowak allowed all three runners to score, pulling the BayBears within two.
Each team placed two more runs on the board in the seventh inning with the Biscuits getting an assist by two of Parra's three errors in right field. The BayBears got some help thanks to a Ronnie Merrill error in the bottom of the seventh which allowed a pair of unearned runs to score.
Cody Evans (2-3, 5.16) will take the ball for the BayBears on Sunday night at 6:05 when the BayBears battle the Biscuits in the final game of the series and first half. For tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
