Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)-Rochester Brigade head coach and general manager Mark Saunders announced that he has been assigned WR/LB Anthony Giovingo, by the arenafootball2 league office, after being placed on reassignment from the Mohegan Wolves.
"I'm excited to have Anthony (Anthony Giovingo) join our team...with all of the injuries we've had lately we needed to add some talent to the roster and Anthony will fit right in," stated Saunders.
Giovingo, 6'1, 210 lbs., played his collegiate football at Arkansas-Monticello, where he finished his college career ranked third all-time in career receptions (187) in the Gulf South Conference and fifth in career receiving yards with 2,646 yards. Â He was named first team All Gulf South Conference and Daktronics first team All South Region in 1998. Â He is currently the Arkansas-Monticello career leader in receptions, receiving yards and single season reception mark with 81.
Giovingo will be playing with his third team in the af2. Â During the 2001 season he played in 16 games with the Lafayette Roughnecks, then played five games with the Mohegan Wolves earlier this season. Â While with the Roughnecks he registered 49 receptions for 671 yards, ten touchdowns and tallied 41 tackles on defense. Â In five games with the Wolves, Giovingo caught 12 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns while registering 14 tackles (10 solo).
Giovingo will play in his first game with the Brigade this Saturday, July 27, against the New haven Ninjas prior to the start of the 2002 Arena Cup Playoffs. Â Catch all of the action on WYSL 1040 AM with the voice of JC DeLass as the Brigade plays their final game of the regular season.
