Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT- June 17, 2017) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (32-24) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (25-30) 7-4 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday evening to even up the three-game Father's Day Weekend series at a victory apiece. Bridgeport is now back to eight games over .500, matching their high watermark of the season.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (4-5) registered the win, allowing four runs on three hits in six innings on the mound, striking out four, notching his first victory since May 16th. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Sean Gleason (1-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits in just four and one-third innings pitched, walking three and striking out one. David Carpenter fired a scoreless inning of relief in the top half of the ninth inning to record his Atlantic League leading 21st save of the season.
Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead against Gleason in the home half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of D'Arby Myers that plated Jonathan Galvez after he was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. The 'Fish scored three runs each in both the fourth and fifth innings for a 7-0 cushion on an RBI double by Galvez, a two-run base knock from Ozney Guillen, a run-scoring single by Jose Gil, and an opposite-field two-run home run to left produced by Daniel Fields. Sugar Land got back to within striking distance at 7-4 in the top half of the sixth against Albaladejo on an RBI groundout by former Bluefish Anthony Giansanti, a sacrifice fly from Travis Scott, and a two-run home run to left centerfield by Joel Guzman, his first hit in a Skeeters uniform after being acquired earlier in the day. That was as close as the visitors would get as the bullpen trio of Brian Moran, Manny Delcarmen, and Carpenter would combine to pitch three innings without allowing a run, striking out three. Fields led the way for the Bluefish with a pair of hits.
