Bridgeport Bluefish Defeat Camden Riversharks, 4-3

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 9, 2003) – The Bridgeport Bluefish pulled off their second come-from-behind victory of the season to defeat the Camden Riversharks, 4-3, on Friday evening before 2,867 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Bluefish won the first game of a three-game series against the visiting Riversharks with a two-run rally in the sixth inning. Tony Rodriguez (2-for-3) answered the call with a two-run double to secure a 4-3 Bluefish win. His double scored Ben Candelaria (2-for-4) who led off the inning with a single and Hector Kuilan who reached after getting hit by a pitch. Byron Gainey gave the Riversharks a brief 3-2 advantage in the sixth inning with a two-out double, scoring Francisco Morales who reached with a single.

Camden took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning an RBI-single from Maleke Fowler, scoring Lipso Nava (2-for-3). The next Riversharks batter Dwight Maness (2-for-5) then hit a RBI-double to drive in Fowler. However, the Bluefish responded with two runs of their own in their home half of the fifth inning. Angel Espada tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run single. His hit scored Tony Rodriguez who led off the inning with a double and Rolo Avila (2-for-3) who followed with a single.

Masaru Imazeki (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Bluefish after surrendering three runs on seven hits in 7.2 innings (2BB, 5K). Mike Guilfoyle worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the year. Chris Peters (1-1) took the loss in relief after recording just one out and getting tagged for two runs on hits (2 HBP). Camden's Mark Nussbeck started but did not record the decision after going five innings while allowing two runs on five hits (2BB, 4K).

The Bluefish will resume play on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. in what will be the second of three games against the visiting Camden Riversharks. LHP Alex Lontayo (1-0, 3.86) will take the mound for the Bluefish to oppose Camden's LHP Kevin Dougherty (1-0, 1.80).
