Philadelphia Barrage News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. March 13, 2003) - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only professional lacrosse team and a charter member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), announced today that they have claimed Yale Graduate and North Haven, Conn. native Marko Lujic from the MLL player pool for the upcoming 2003 season.

Lujic was an Honorable Mention STX-USILA All-American in 2002 during his senior season at Yale. During that senior campaign he led all Yale midfielders with 28 points, while scoring 21 goals and adding seven assists. In 2002, he was also a First-Team All-Ivy League and Second-Team All-New England selection. He finished his four-year lacrosse career at Yale with 97 points on 58 goals and 29 assists. The North Haven, Conn. resident was a Second-Team All-Ivy League selection in 2001 when he led all Yale midfielders in both goals (16) and assists (12).

"I am extremely excited to get the opportunity to play in Connecticut for the Barrage," said Marko Lujic. "I always hoped that I would have the chance to play close to home. I am anxiously awaiting the start of practice and am optimistic that I can provide a contribution to help the team this season.

In 2002, Lujic was instrumental in helping Yale snap Princeton's 37-game Ivy League winning streak. He scored three goals and added an assist in a 15-13 win at Princeton on March 30, 2002. On the season, he had four hat tricks, including a season high in points (5) and goals (4) in a 21-11 win over Sacred Heart. Upon graduation, he was presented with the Walter T. Collins Award ('23) which is given annually to the Yale lacrosse player who "by his overall ability and play has been selected as the best overall offensive lacrosse player of the season.

Lujic was originally drafted by the Boston Cannons in the third round (14th overall) of the 2002 MLL Collegiate Draft. However, he did not suit up for any games for Boston and was later released during the season. He grew up in North Haven, Conn. and attended Hamden Hall Country Day School where he captained both the lacrosse (two seasons) and soccer teams (three seasons). The three-sport star helped lead Hamden Hall to four consecutive New England Championships, three basketball titles and three lacrosse New England finals. Lujic was voted to the all-league team for four straight years in lacrosse and to the all-area team twice.
