Bridgeport Acquires Infielder Rosa

(Bridgeport, Conn. - February 24, 2015 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the acquisition and signing of infielder Jovan Rosa . Rosa was acquired in a trade with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League in exchange for a player to be named later.

"Jovan is a nice addition for us and will add versatility in our infield," says Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "He's a well-rounded player and we look forward to his contributions this season."

Jovan will make his Atlantic League debut during his eighth year of professional baseball. Last year, the East Hartford, Connecticut resident saw action in 91 games for Traverse City, hitting .279 with nine homers and 49 RBI.

The 27-year-old broke into professional baseball after being drafted in the 22nd round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft by the Chicago Cubs. He played parts of four seasons with their organization, topping out at the High-A level with Daytona in 2009.

Following his stint with the Cubs organization, Rosa spent parts of the next five years in the independent ranks with New Jersey of the Can-Am League, and Normal, Washington and Traverse City of the Frontier League. In 563 career minor league games, he owns a .270 batting average with 194 extra-base hits, 294 RBI and 222 runs scored.
