Brewer, Community Field Win Awards

Burlington, IA (February 9, 2009) - The Iowa Sports Turf Managers Association (ISTMA) recently announced that Bees' Head Groundskeeper, T.J. Brewer, was given the 2008 ISTMA's Sports Turf Manager of the Year Award. Community Field was awarded as ISTMA's Baseball Field of the Year.

The Sports Turf Manager of the Year Award and Baseball Field of the Year are given each year to recognize a sports turf manager and staff for their professional ability and contribution to the sports turf industry of Iowa, and to show appreciation for the individual's efforts in leading the sports turf industry into the future.

"T.J. has worked very hard to improve and maintain the playing surface at Community Field," said Bees' General Manager Chuck Brockett. "We've felt for awhile that we had one of the best fields in minor league baseball, and I'm happy T.J. is being recognized by his peers."

Brewer enters his fourth season with the Bees in 2009. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in horticulture and an emphasis in turfgrass management. Prior to working with the Bees, Brewer has worked as the athletic fields manager for the City of St. Louis Public Schools, and has worked on the grounds crew of the Iowa State University athletic department. He has also spent time working in the golf industry.

ISTMA's purpose is to collect and disseminate scientific, professional and practical knowledge through association with those persons engaged in or concerned with the research and maintenance of safe and improved sports turf areas.  ISTMA promotes the design, development and use of related materials, supplies and equipment in the sports turf industry.  ISTMA collects and supplies current information on effective management practices for the improvement in quality and safety of all sports facilities.
