Long Beach, CA â The Long Beach Breakers Professional Baseball Team announced today that they have acquired the rights to right-hand pitcher Matt Harrington from the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League. Harrington, a former 1st round pick of the Colorado Rockies was selected as the 7th overall pick in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft but was unable to come to terms with the team.
The 6 foot 4 20 year old has been renowned for a Major-league caliber fastball often clocked in the mid-high 90's. He is represented by high-profile agent Scott Boras who has used independent baseball teams such as the Long Beach Breakers to showcase talented athletes before re-entering the Major League draft.
The Long Beach Breakers play at Blair Field in Long Beach in the independent Western Baseball League. They are 2001 League Champions and are managed by former Los Angeles Dodger great Steve Yeager. ###
