Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Rome Braves scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to edge the Savannah Sand Gnats 2-1 Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,642. Starter Michael Fulmer gave the Gnats (11-16/52-42) six one-run innings with seven strikeouts, but was not involved in the decision.
Savannah RF Gregory Pron extended his personal season-best hitting streak to eight straight games with a fifth inning double. He scored the team's only run on an RBI groundout by CF Gilbert Gomez in the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
The Braves (15-12/33-64) broke a 1-1 tie against reliever Randy Fontanez in the seventh. RF Chase Anselment drew a walk, went to second on DH Brandon Drury's single and scored on SS Fernando De Los Santos' single into leftfield. The throw from LF Dustin Lawley beat Anselment home, but kicked away from catcher Albert Cordero on a high bounce to allow Anselment to plate the go-ahead run.
Fulmer, who walked two and struck out seven, lowered his ERA to 2.67. All four hits he allowed were singles.
Savannah will send LHP Alex Panteliodis (3-4, 3.92) to the mound Friday against RHP Jarrett Miller (5-3, 4.40). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 6 pm. The radio broadcast, presented by Subway begins on News/Talk 630 and online at sandgnats.com at 6:45 pm.
