Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves announce that former Atlanta Brave Bob Horner will appear in Rome on Friday night May 8th. Horner played for the Braves from 1978-1986 and was an integral part of the 1982 Western Division Championship team.
Horner was drafted by the Braves in 1978 from Arizona State and made his major league debut the same year. He became one of the few players in history going directly to the starting lineup in the majors without playing in the minor leagues. In his first game, Horner belted a home run off future Hall of Fame pitcher Bert Blyleven of the Pirates. He led all third baseman that season with 23 home runs and was awarded National League Rookie of the Year honors. On July 6, 1986 in a game against the Expos, he became the eleventh player in Major League Baseball history to hit four home runs in a single game.
"Bob Horner is certainly a Braves legend," says Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn. "We are looking forward to having him here at State Mutual Stadium as part of our Atlanta Braves Alumni night festivities. We welcome Bob to Rome!"
The Rome Braves open the 2015 season on Thursday April 9th against the Asheville Tourists. Hall of Famer Bobby Cox will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or romebraves.com.
