New York Red Bulls II News Release
MONTREAL, QC - New York Red Bulls II kicked off its three-game road trip with a win against FC Montreal, 4-2. Brandon Allen scored three goals and Junior Flemmings added one to improve Red Bulls II's road record to 6-0-1.
The win improves NYRB II to 10-1-5 on the season. New York stands in second place of the Eastern Conference, three-points behind leaders Louisville City FC. Red Bulls II holds one game in hand on Louisville.
The win extended Red Bulls II's unbeaten streak to 10 games. New York is 7-0-3 during their current run.
Brandon Allen opened the scoring in the 18th minute from the penalty spot, burying his shot into the left corner. Six minutes later, the rookie Homegrown Player scored his second of the game, finishing a ball in the box headed down by Stefano Bonomo with his left foot.
FC Montreal's Ballou Tabla pulled one back before the break, but Junior Flemmings restored the two-goal lead in the 47th minute, slamming home a low-driven cross from Derrick Etienne Jr. The goal was Flemmings' fifth of the season, second-most on the team behind Allen.
Allen claimed his hat trick in the 70th minute, thanks to a through ball from Dan Metzger. The Georgetown product slipped his shot past goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau at the near post for his eighth goal of the season.
Janouk Charbonneau scored for Montreal in the 84th minute and Red Bulls II claimed another three-points on the road.
Montreal's scoring broke up a streak of back-to-back clean sheets for goalkeeper Ryan Meara, who has kept seven shutouts this season. New York has recorded 10 shutouts in 16 games, chasing the USL shutout record set by Rochester Rhinos in 2015 with 17 clean sheets.
Red Bulls II heads out for the second match of its three-game road trip against Charlotte Independence on July 16 at 7 p.m. New York next returns home on July 23 against Charleston Battery.
