Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - Masterful former pitcher Brandee McArthur makes her way onto the list of the Racers IMPACT honorees after spending the final three years of her professional career with the Racers, helping to deliver the Cowles Cup to Akron in 2005.
"Brandee began her career in Akron as a member of the Ohio Pride in 2000," remembered GM Joey Arrietta. "Brandee was everything and more that anyone could ask of a player and a person. She was a tough, crafty competitor in the circle and a genuine joy to have in the clubhouse."
In each of her three seasons in Akron, McArthur led the Racers in innings pitched and games started. In her career with the Racers, McArthur is third all-time in franchise history with 384 innings pitched, 54 starts, 291 strikeouts, 35 complete games and 32 wins. McArthur is also fourth all-time with a 1.66 ERA.
In 2004, McArthur led the Racers with 12 wins, 12 complete games and a 1.17 ERA, in addition to innings and games started. McArthur started 20 games and had 87 strikeouts that same year. She had a 12-7 record and an ERA of 1.17.
McArthur was a driving force behind the Racers championship run in 2005, leading the staff in innings pitched (103.1), games started (15), complete games (10), wins (12) and strikeouts (109), helping Akron secure a second place finish in the regular season. She also compiled an ERA of 1.83 that summer and was named to the NPF East All-Star team.
In her final season with the Racers, McArthur teamed with fellow pitcher and IMPACT honoree Radara McHugh to form an intimidating 1-2 punch. The duo both started 19 games in 2006, the rest of Akron's staff started only eight games. McArthur threw 13 complete games to McHugh's 14. McArthur also struck out 95 batters and had a 2.06 ERA.
After spending the 1999 season with the original Carolina Diamonds, McArthur's first introduction to Firestone Stadium came as a member of the Ohio Pride in 2000, which shared the stadium with the Racers for one season. In her season with the Diamonds, McArthur put up two impressive marks, her 191.1 innings pitched ranks her seventh all-time in league history and her 16 wins in 1999 tie her for 10th on the all-time list.
McArthur and the other 29 IMPACT honorees will be recognized this summer, culminating in a weekend-long celebration July 15-17 when the Racers welcome the Dallas Charge to Firestone Stadium for a three-game series. The Racers will welcome back many of their former players to celebrate the history of the franchise, culminating in the pre-game presentation of the 30 IMPACT honorees on July 16th. Each honoree will receive a special commemorative jersey bearing their name and number.
