Brahmas John Snowden Scores Five Goals at Arizona
February 13, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
GLENDALE, AZ (February 13, 2013) - Veteran forward John Snowden came close to entering the Central Hockey League record books on Wednesday night as he scored five goals in the Fort Worth Brahmas 7-1 win in Prescott Valley over the Arizona Sundogs.
The Everett, Washington native scored four times in the second period marking the first time since February 5, 2011 that a CHL player has scored four times in one period (Wichita's Andrew Martens in a 5-4 loss to Fort Wayne).
Snowden scored his five goals on seven shots and falls just one goal shy of tying the CHL record for most goals by a player in a single game (6). Tulsa's Luc Beausoleil, San Antonio's Paul Jackson and Oklahoma City's Joe Burton share the single game high, all done in the mid 1990's.
The five goals for Snowden is the most by an individual player in almost a decade as San Angelo's Chris Minard was the last to score five times when he did it on February 8, 2004 (Minard, like Snowden, scored four second period goals in that game).
The 31-year-old Snowden signed with the Brahmas just before Christmas after being released by Rapid City. In 24 games with the Brahmas, Snowden has scored 20 goals with 13 assists and is a +9. In 22 games with the Rush, the 6-0, 205-pound forward scored two goals with nine assists giving him a combined 22 goals and 22 assist on the season. A little over a week ago, Snowden was named the Oakley Three Stars Player of the Month for January.
Fort Worth is 17-6-1 since Snowden joined the team and with Wednesday's win, the Brahmas (29-15-5, 63 points) complete a perfect 5-0 road trip and are now tied for first place in the Berry Conference with the Allen Americans (27-10-9, 63 points). Allen and Fort Worth go head-to-head for first place on Friday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
