Brahmas Edge Mallards in Overtime, Take 2-0 Series Lead

March 30, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - John Snowden scored at 4:47 of overtime to give the host Fort Worth Brahmas a 3-2 win over the Quad City Mallards Saturday night and, with that dramatic victory, a two games to none lead over the Mallards in the best-of-seven opening round of the Central Hockey League Ray Miron President's Cup playoffs.

Snowden scored the game winner from the high slot with a shot that found its way home through traffic after the Brahmas had twice come from behind to tie the game in regulation.

The Mallards entered the third period on top 2-1 but Fort Worth's Calin Wild would score the goal that - eventually- forced overtime by ripping a one timer in under the cross bar for the top of the left wing circle at 1:41 of the third.

The Mallards had first moved in front when Darren McMillan's spectacular shorthanded goal opened the scoring at 14:56 of the first period. McMillan spun 360 degrees while skating down the slot and whipped a close range backhander past Fort Worth goaltender Kristofer Westblom. The Brahmas bounced back to tie the game at one just over two and a half minutes later with Tomas Klempa's power play goal from the left wing circle. Mickey Lang's tip-in gave the Mallards the lead for a second time with just 45 seconds left in the first period, but, in the end, the Mallards were unable to hold onto the advantage.

The Mallards fell despite a sterling 34-save effort from goaltender Neil Conway in his professional playoff debut.
