Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
On Monday, July 9, former heavyweight contender, Gerry Cooney, will be on hand to celebrate Irish Heritage Night. After throwing out the game's ceremonial first pitch, Cooney will sign autographs on the ballpark's concourse level, and meet with fans. Cooney, a Long Island native, began his professional boxing career in 1977, and compiled a professional record of 28 wins and 3 losses, with 25 knockouts. He is known to be one of the most powerful punchers in boxing history.
Irish Heritage Night will also feature a National Anthem performance by Irish-American musician, Andy Cooney (no relation). Named by The New York Times as "Irish America's Favorite Son," Cooney's professional career began at the young age of 17, when he started appearing in many of the well-known Irish establishments in the New York area. He currently tours with his band, bringing Irish entertainment across the country.
In addition to the celebrity appearances, fans will also be treated to a performance by the Irish step dancers from O'Malley Dance Studio. The Cyclones' players will be wearing alternate uniforms for the occasion, which will feature a special Irish décor and a matching hat. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase Corned beef and Cabbage, an Irish favorite, from food stands at the ballpark.
Tickets to the July 9th game are currently available as part of the Fireworks Mini Plan, the Flex Plan, and through Season Tickets.
FIELD OF DREAMS: When you purchase group tickets with the Cyclones (20 or more), your youth group is eligible to participate in the Field of Dreams program. Youth teams and leagues are invited onto the field, in uniform, to stand alongside the Cyclones players for the National Anthem. It's an experience they'll never forget, and one that makes your time at KeySpan Park even more exciting!

NEWCOMBE COMES BACK TO BROOKLYN: On Sunday, July 22nd, the legendary Don Newcombe will attend his first professional Brooklyn baseball game in 50 years, when he visits KeySpan Park for the Cyclones' 5pm game against the Tri-City Valley Cats. After throwing out the game's ceremonial first pitch, Newcombe will sign autographs on the ballpark's concourse level, and meet with fans. In addition, the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Don Newcombe bobblehead!
Newcombe was a star for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and was a part of the borough's only World Series championship, when "Dem Bums" beat the hated Yankees in 1955. Newcombe is also the only player ever to win the Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, and MVP awards.
"We are thrilled and honored to have someone with Don Newcombe's credentials at the ballpark this summer," said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen. "He was such an important part of creating the legacy and lore of Brooklyn baseball, and we can't wait for him to step out onto a new Brooklyn field of dreams."
The Cyclones will also be hosting an exclusive luncheon with Don Newcombe on the afternoon of the 22nd, giving fans a chance to get up close and personal with the former Dodger star. There are a limited number of tickets to the luncheon. To get more information on pricing and availability, fans can send their contact information to rebecca@brooklyncyclones.com
