Bouchard and Levasseur win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 8, 2007 - Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward François Bouchard and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 1 to 7.

In three games, Bouchard collected two goals and seven assists while maintaining a +5 (plus/minus) differential. The Drakkar forward had a hand in nine of the team's thirteen goals this week (69%). His best performance came in a 7-6 loss at the hands of the Lewiston MAINEiacs yesterday as he registered six points (2+4) while collecting first star honours. It was the first six-point game of his career. Bouchard joined Thomas Beauregard at the top of the QMJHL scoring standings with 89 points. He collects the TELUS player of the week award for a second consecutive week.

Joakim Jensen (4-3-7) of the Drakkar, Marc-André Daneau (4-2-6) of the MAINEiacs and James Sheppard (6-1-7) of the Screaming Eagles were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur. In three games, he collected three wins while posting a 1.30 goals-against-average and a .951 save percentage. Last Thursday, Levasseur collected his twentieth win of the season by making 28 saves in a 3-1 victory over the Remparts. He was also named the game's first star. Two days later, he made 26 stops in the first sixty-five minutes of play, followed by five stops in the shootout, to help his team beat the Tigres 3-2. Finally, yesterday, Levasseur made 24 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Voltigeurs. The Huskies are now tied for first place in the TELUS division standings with Val-d'Or.

Defensemen Andrew Bodnarchuk (2-4-6; +5) of the Mooseheads and Chad Denny (1-5-6; +2) of the MAINEiacs as well as goaltender Jean-Christophe Blanchard (2-1-1; 125 MIN; 0.96 GAA; .971 SAV %) of the Tigres were also considered.
