
Boston Cannons Travel to Long Island on Saturday

BOSTON, MA - Friday, May 30, 2008 - The Boston Cannons (1-1) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will travel to the state of New York to take on the Long Island Lizards (0-2) at Mitchel Athletic Complex on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 PM.
CANNONS VS. LONG ISLAND IN 2007: The Cannons were defeated in their first match-up of the season against the Long Island Lizards, 16-12, in Long Island on May 25. After trading goals for most of the first half, the Lizards outscored the Cannons, 7-2, down the stretch to earn the win. Midfielder Stephen Berger tallied five goals in the win and was named the Bud Light MVP of the game. In the second contest between the two teams, the Cannons slipped by the Lizards by a score of 17-16 in the Cannons final home game of the 2007 season at Harvard Stadium on August 2. Attackman Mike Powell (Syracuse '04) earned the Bud Light MVP for his three goal, three assist effort in the game.
CANNONS' LAST GAME (MAY 23 VS. ROCHESTER): Rochester Rattler's attackman John Grant, Jr. collected six goals, one two-point goal and one assist to earn Bud Light MVP honors as the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) were defeated by the Rattlers by a score of 17-14, in front of 9,072 fans at Harvard Stadium on Friday night. The two teams traded the lead throughout the majority of the game, with the Cannons holding the advantage until the Rattlers took off on a four-goal run at the start of the final quarter. Midfielder Matt Poskay (Virginia '06) stopped the charge with his second goal of the game at 9:40 and brought the game back to a 14-14 tie. The Rattlers then ended the game with four unanswered goals for the 17-14 win with the go-ahead goal scored at 10:01 of the quarter. Attackman Matt Alrich (Delaware '04) collected a career-high six goals in the contest for the Cannons. Goalie Jake Coon (Nazareth '00) stopped 25 of 41 shots in the loss. Goalie Mike Levin earned the win with 16 saves on the 30 shots he faced.
LONG ISLAND'S LAST GAME (MAY 25 AT PHILADELPHIA - IN DALLAS, TEXAS): The defending MLL Champion Philadelphia Barrage posted an 18-12 victory over the Long Island Lizards at Texas Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on May 25. Attackman Jed Prossner was named as the Bud Light MVP after scoring two goals and four assists for the Barrage. While Prossner had six points, attackmen Michael Springer and Seth Goldberg and midfielder Matt Striebel each added four goals in the Philadelphia victory. Barrage goalie Brian Dougherty had 18 saves in the 50th win of his MLL career. Attackman Frank Resetarits and midfielder Stephen Berger each scored three times for the Lizards.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Saturday night is the Cannons' first road game of the season...The Cannons are 12-8 against Long Island all-time in the regular season...Attackman Sean Morris (UMass '06), a Marshfield, MA, native, is scheduled to appear in the line-up on Saturday night after being acquired by the Cannons in a draft day trade with Chicago on May 28...Attackman Matt Alrich (Delaware '04) is tied for third in the league in goals (8) and points (10) heading into this weekend...Midfielder Matt Poskay (Virginia '06) has the only shorthanded goal scored in the league so far this season...Rookie midfielder Josh Porcell (UMBC '07) collected the first goal of his MLL career in his MLL debut versus Rochester on May 23...The Cannons have yet to name a starting goalie for the 2008 season, and Kip Turner (Virginia '07) is slated to start in Long Island on Saturday night...Midfielder DJ Andrzejewski (Penn '06) will miss Saturday night's game due to injury.
CANNONS ON TV: Saturday night's match-up between the Cannons and Long Island will air live locally on Comcast SportsNet New England.
This season marks the first time in the organization's history that all 12 Cannons games will be televised in the New England area, and 11 of the 12 games will be aired live. Three networks - Comcast SportsNet New England, CN8 and ESPN2 - will combine to televise the games.
