Boston Cannons to Hold Open Tryout for 2012 Season

Boston Cannons News Release

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, today announced the 2012 Cannons Open Tryout presented by CroART Lacrosse and CATZ Sports Performance Center, giving local players the chance to earn an invitation to Cannons Training Camp and a potential roster spot for the 2012 season. The tryout will take place in March, with exact date, time and location to be announced at a later date.

"Boston is known for its huge population of college graduates and, whether they grew up in the area or moved here after school, that includes a significant number of lacrosse players, many of whom played at the highest collegiate level," said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney. "This tryout will give us the chance to get a look at some of the talent out there that we might not have seen otherwise."

CATZ will implement a training and conditioning circuit to assess the players' physical fitness before the Cannons coaching staff will run drills and game situations. Three tryout attendees will be invited to attend Cannons Training Camp, which takes place over three weekends in April. MLL teams can bring 40 players to training camp before cutting the roster to 25 active and six practice squad players prior to opening day, April 28th.

"Through this tryout, the many talented players in our leagues and in the area will have a chance to showcase their abilities to the Cannons scouts," said CroART Lacrosse Founder Tyrone Croom. "We hope a few of our players are recognized and given the opportunity to show what they have at Cannons Training Camp and maybe get a few rosters spots on our home town team."

In addition to presenting the tryout - which includes a discounted registration fee for its members - CroART Lacrosse has entered into a partnership with the Cannons for the entire 2012 season. CroART Lacrosse will receive Sideline Club tickets to every Cannons home game, group tickets for its teams to attend games, and will be promoted through the Cannons website and social media outlets as part of its sponsorship deal with the team. The Cannons will also scrimmage the CroART All-Stars during the 2012 Training Camp.

"With the MLL Championship in hand, the Cannons have set the footprint to the success model in the lacrosse world," continued Croom. "We look forward to working with the Cannons organization and supporting their efforts within the community."

"As our fan base continues to grow, CroART represents the key demographic of post-collegiate lacrosse fans in Boston, a group we hope to see more of next summer at Harvard Stadium," said Barney. "This partnership will allow us to reach those fans and get them more involved with the Cannons in various ways, beginning with an invitation to try out for the team."

All players interested in attending the 2012 Cannons Open Tryout MUST register in the MLL Player Pool by December 1, 2011. Registration is available on the MLL website.
