Boston Cannons News Release

BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending July 13, 2008, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Boston Cannons midfielder Matt Poskay was named as the Offensive Player of the Week while Philadelphia Barrage defenseman Brett Moyer has earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.

Meanwhile, Mike Levin of the Rochester Rattlers has been awarded the Goalkeeper of the Week honor while Los Angeles Riptide attackman Kevin Huntley was selected as the Cascade Rookie of the Week for the third week in a row.

Poskay scored a career-high six goals to lead the Cannons to a 13-12 victory over the Long Island Lizards on Saturday evening after being held without a point against the Philadelphia Barrage on July 3. The former University of Virginia midfielder has recorded five "hat tricks" in the last six games.

Poskay, who has set a career high for goals and points already this season, leafs the Cannons with 26 goals and 28 points. He is tied for 12th place in the League.

Moyer helped the Barrage to a 16-11 victory over the New Jersey Pride on Thursday night, extending the two-time defending champion's win streak to three straight games. In addition to recording three ground balls in the victory, the former Hofstra University defender held New Jersey Pride attackman Merrick Thomson without a point for the first time this season, snapping a nine-game goal-scoring streak.

Moyer has played in all nine games this year for the Barrage and ranks fifth on the team with 17 ground balls.

Levin helped the Rochester Rattlers post a 19-6 victory over the Washington Bayhawks on Saturday night with an 11-save performance in 47 minutes. He led a Rochester defense that held the Bayhawks to a season-low six goals. It was the Bayhawks' lowest scoring output since a 19-5 loss against Los Angeles last year.

Levin has played in seven games this year and has recorded a .526 save percentage while allowing 13.42 goals per game for the Rattlers, who are tied with Boston for second place in the Eastern Conference.

Huntley led the Riptide to their third straight victory with a convincing 16-6 win over the Denver Outlaws on Saturday night. He scored four goals and added three assists en route to his third straight Bud Light MVP award. Over the last three games, he has scored 14 goals and added four assists.

Despite playing in just five games, the former Johns Hopkins University attackman ranks third on the Riptide in scoring with 22 points. He has 17 goals with five assists.
