Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA (September 19,2008)- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings re-signed Head Coach Jon Norris to a deal earlier this week that will keep him with the BattleWings through the 2010 season. Norris has transformed the once moribund franchise into a championship contender virtually overnight as he led the BattleWings to a 20-12 regular-season record in his two seasons with the team. Not only did Norris lead the Wings' to their best regular season record in franchise history (11-5) in 2007, but he also steered the team to their first ever playoff appearance that year. The BattleWings advanced all the way to the 2007 National Conference Championship game before losing to the eventual ArenaCup champions.

Last season, Coach Norris took the team to new heights as he led the 8th year franchise to their first ever Division Championship. The BattleWings secured a berth to the playoffs for the second straight year and hosted a playoff game for the first time in team history. The BattleWings advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling victim to the Amarillo Dusters and questionable officiating.

Not only has Coach Norris had a tremendous impact on the BattleWings, but in the community as well. "There are tremendous obvious benefits having Jon Norris as head coach of the BattleWings: back-to-back winning seasons under his guidance, playoffs both seasons for the first time in team history, first ever division championship, etc. But one thing that is not discussed often is how he has become and integral part of our community" said team owner Dan Newman. "He has chosen to live here year round, gladly participates in every event the the BattleWings are a part of year-round, and has developed a coaching staff and players that reflect his same values and those of the entire BattleWings' organization" continued Newman. "In plain speak: "He's good people." And that comes to him naturally. I'm thrilled to have him guide our football team for at least two more seasons."
