Series Record: Amarillo leads all-time series, 1-0.
Last Meeting: Amarillo dusted Bossier 86-66 when the two teams played in Bossier City.
Streaks: Battle Wings, W1; Dusters, W1
Coaches: Battle Wings - Keith Barefield (8-18, 2nd season)
Dusters - Steve Perdue (5-3, 1st season)
THE STAKES: Another MUST win game for Bossier if the 'Wings have any realistic hopes fo the playoffs. Keith Barefield's charges stormed back from a first quarter 10-point deficit to beat Oklahoma City, in the process pulling to within one game of two of the five teams they're chasing. Amarillo moved ahead of Oklahoma City in the Midwest Division rankings last weekend, taking sole possession of second place. Barring a complete collapse, the expansion team (and defending champions of the now-defunct Intense Football League) will make the af2 post-season for a chance at two different league titles in back-to-back seasons.
THE SERIES: This will be the second time for the two teams to meet and the first since both made in-house coaching changes. Amarillo scored an 86-66 victory over Bossier at the Century Tel Center in April, leading to the firing of Bossier's season-opening defensive coordinator, Rich Britt. The 'Wings promoted Mike Green to the DC's role and have gone 3-4 since....Amarillo's Steve Perdue took over the reigns as Duster head coach on April 28 when original skipper Don Carthel took the head coaching vacancy at West Texas A&M. Perdue was the defensive coordinator in Amarillo before taking the top post.
THE IFs:
If Bossier/Shreveport defeats Amarillo...
- it will give the 'Wings back-to-back wins for the first time this year;
- it will allow the 'Wings to continue chasing at least a .500 record and a playoff spot;
- it will be the first-ever victory over the Dusters;
- the Battle Wings will have completed a 2-0 "Texas Two-Step" following an earlier victory on the road at Rio Grande Valley;
- the 'Wings will have climbed within one of their season-long victory total from 2004.

HEAD COACHES: The Battle Wings' Keith Barefield is in his second season at the helm of the ballclub and owns an 8-19 record (5-11 in 2004). His impressive resume includes 19 seasons, ten as head coach, at Evangel (Mo.) University where he build a perennial NAIA powerhouse. The Crusaders were nationally ranked each year of his head coaching tenure and qualified for the playoffs four times from 1993-97. Barefield was named the Heart of America Conference Coach-of-the-Year in 1996 and 1997 and during his time at the Springfield, MO, school, he earned himself the title of winningest coach in the state at any level in the 1990's. His record at Evangel was 66-33-2, the best in school history. From Evangel, Barefield moved to the prep ranks at Cornerstone Christian School in San Antonio, TX as the school's varsity coach. In three seasons, the Warriors compiled a 29-7 record and advanced to the state playoffs, including wining the TAPPS 3A Texas state title in 2001 and 2003....Steve Perdue took over the helm of the Dusters from now-West Texas A&M head coach Don Carthel on April 28, becoming in the process the youngest head coach in "The Duece" at 27 years old. Since his ascent from the defensive coordinators' post, the Dusters have gone 5-3 and won four straight games at home. Purdue is an Amarillo product, having played his prep ball at Randall High School there. Perdue saw action in four professional indoor football leagues - the Intense Football League, the Indoor Professional Football League, the National Indoor Football League and the af2. Perdue was on the coaching staff of the Dusters last season when they won the IFL championship.
LAST SERIES MEETING: Amarillo scored touchdowns on all 13 possessions and charged after a number of single-game records in an 86-66 victory over the Battle Wings at the Century Tel Center on April 23. Duster QB Julian Reese guided his team to an af2-record 474 yards offense in that game, leading Amarillo to 13 TD's in 13 drives, marking the final game for Bossier defensive coordinator Richard Britt. Mike Green was promoted after that game from his role as secondary/receivers coach and Bossier got its first win of the year the next week at Rio Grande Valley. The Amarillo game was also the Bossier City debut of Tim Hicks, who earlier that week was traded from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to the Battle Wings.
SERIES NOTABLES: The Battle Wings will be trying to stop a four-game home winning streak of the Dusters while at the same time getting their second-consecutive win of the year for just the first time this season. The 'Wings have a three-game road losing streak they can pop as well. Amarillo has been struggling to put together back-to-back wins of late, following each victory since May 7 with a trip to the loss column. Bossier also has a chance to earn another measure of retribution against a team it has already lost to - the 'Wings defeated Oklahoma City last weekend at home three games after losing badly to the Yard Dawgz in OKC.
KEY MATCH-UPS: The Battle Wings' defense will be focusing hard on two of the league's top offensive producers - Amarillo QB Julian Reese and OS Chavis McCollister. The Bossier's defensive front is going to have to work hard to pressure Reese, who's even dangerous on the run because of the play-making ability of McCollister. Reese has thrown for nearly 2,900 yards and is responsible for a league-high 77 touchdowns - 55 through the air and 22 on the ground. McCollister, from nearby Tenaha (TX), has quickly become one of the most lethal receiving threats in the league, averaging 16 yards per catch (tops in af2) en route to a league-high 1,248 receiving yards and 27 TD's.....For Bossier City, the chance to attack the league's third-most porous defense again has to be inviting, especially if the 'Wings can chew up some clock in the process. Without Bo Smith on the roster, QB Tim Hicks has gone to a steady-and-sure cast of receivers led by Reggie Perkins, who matched a career high in TD receptions last week with four against OKC and recently taken over the team lead in receptions with 57 catches. Aaron Frazier, Clint Schexnayder, Adrian Burnette and new OS Kenneth Johnson get the job done as well.

BAREFIELD BITES:
Battle Wings head coach Keith Barefield on the victory over Oklahoma City: "Needless to say, we needed that win in the worst kind of way. I was very proud of the guys, and very happy for them too that they got that kind of reward for their hard work in practice. We didn't have a lot of distractions and the guys were focused very well on their task."
Barefield on the play of first-game rookies Kenneth Johnson (OS) and Antwan Lawrence (OL/DL): "I thought they did very well out there for their first game. Kenny was a nice option on offense.....made some good catches. Antwan helped out fine on the offensive line when he had to block - we didn't give up any sacks again. On defense, I thought we had our best, most consistent push on their offensive front in several games."
Barefield on the Battle Wings' offense: "We've had some ups and downs, but when these guys are focused, we can score points with and against anyone. They know they're still in this (the playoff race) and I just don't think they'll give up."
Barefield on the rematch with Amarillo: "We've come a long way since that night. Coach (Mike) Green has done a fine job with our defense since taking over and I think the chemistry between the players and him is at an all-time high. Amarillo's offense is high-powered, there's no doubt, but I think we can do a better job against them this weekend than when they scored 86 points on us."
AMARILLO BY MORNIN'.... The Battle Wings make their first ever trip to Amarillo in the rematch of April's game played between the two clubs in Bossier City. The game will finish off June play for the 'Wings and give them a chance to finish the month at 2-2. Bossier City and the rest of the league will have the July 4 weekend off before racing to the regular season's end at the end of July.
FORWARD MOTION: The Battle Wings will rest up - along with the rest of the league - over the July 4 weekend. After that, Bossier has to be ready for the next two games to be played over just six days - first at home against Rio Grande Valley, then on the road at Bakersfield. Bossier is 2-1 all-time vs. their next two opponents...
PERFECT 11'S: A total of five Battle Wings have played in each of the team's 11 games this season - kicker Brian Hazelwood, WR/DB Adrian Burnette, OL/DL Quincy Myles, FB/LB Joe Wesley and OL/DL Darrick Sanders.
DROP THIS! Battle Wing place-kicker Brian Hazelwood is second all-time in af2 history for converting drop-kick two-point conversions, having made seven-of-eight entering Saturday's game at Amarillo. He missed on his first attempt at Macon two weeks ago, but got a reprieve with a Macon penalty and nailed the kick in his second attempt. He then converted another two-pointer before hitting an upright on his third and final attempt against the Knights. Hazelwood's teammates will have to go on a scoring explosion for the remainder of the season for him to have a chance at the league record - Tallahassee's Phil Setterquist set the mark in 2001, converting 60 of the two-point drop-kicks in 86 attempts.
