Boomers Turn Triple Play in Loss to Gateway
May 12, 2018 - Frontier League (FL)
Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SAUGET, IL - The defending Frontier League champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, turned the second triple play in franchise history during an 8-0 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies on Saturday night.
The triple play took place in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gateway had scored four times already in the inning to extend the lead to 8-0 after the first seven batters reached base successfully. Chris Hall came on in relief with the bases loaded and Cody Livesay struck a sinking liner to Josh Gardiner, who caught the ball, stepped on second, and threw to first. The first triple play in team history came at home on August 23, 2012 against Evansville. Hall faced four batters, retiring them all, to work two blank innings.
Gateway hit back-to-back homers in the fifth and added two more runs to nab a 4-0 edge and chase starter Kyle Cedotal from the game. Cedotal did not allow a hit through the first 3.1 innings, but took the loss after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings. David Meade made his professional debut in the defeat with 1.1 innings of work. The pitching staff walked eight in the loss.
The offense finished with five hits and own just 10 total through the first two games of the year. Five different individuals collected hits in the loss. Clint Hardy walked twice along with tallying a hit. The Boomers have scored just two runs so far this season, both in the third inning on Friday.
The Boomers (0-2) conclude the season opening series with Gateway on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. RHP Payton Lobdell, obtained in a spring training trade with Lake Erie, will make his Schaumburg debut against LHP Max MacNaab. The home portion of the schedule kicks off on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. against the Southern Illinois Miners with a magnet schedule giveaway along with the celebration of the 2017 championship season.
