Bonecrushers top Rock River for first win of the season
March 22, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Milwaukee Bonecrushers News Release
J.R. Taylor ran for 51 yards and three touchdowns while Randy Bell had 170 all-purpose yards and scored three times to lead the Milwaukee Bonecrushers to a 53-40 victory over the Rock River Raptors at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Ill.
New starting quarterback Ronnie Gordon had four of his eight completed passes go for scores en route to throwing for 183 yards in leading the Bonecrushers (1-1) to their first win of the 2009 Continental Indoor Football League season and just their second win as a franchise.
The Bonecrushers never trailed in the football game. After blocking a Jason Ghinazzi 27-yard field goal attempt on the Raptors' first possession, Gordon got the Bonecrushers on the board first with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Shatone Powers. The âCrushers would hold the Raptors (1-1) to a long field goal miss on their second possession, then strike again on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Gordon to Bell. The Bonecrushers biggest lead in the football game was 26 points when Willie Tolon's 22-yard touchdown catch gave the Bonecrushers a 40-14 lead to cap off a third quarter in which the Bonecrushers outscored the Raptors, 20-0.
Powers was the Bonecrushers' top receiver, recording four catches for 80 yards. In all, three Bonecrushers recorded over 100 all-purpose yards - Bell (170), Powers (110) and Taylor (105).
Former Bonecrushers' quarterback Brian Ryczkowski went 18-for-29 passing for 204 yards and six touchdowns, but was also intercepted twice, including once in the end zone on a spectacular play by Owen Gilleand. Gilleand and Raptors' receiver Bryce Stevens each fell over the boards while attempting to make the catch, but Gilleand came away with the football to force the Raptors' turnover.
The Bonecrushers will open their home season on Sat., March 28 against the Wisconsin Wolfpack. Tickets are still available via mkebonecrushers.com and ticketmaster.com. Start time at the U.S. Cellular Arena will be 6 p.m.
